Why Web 2.0 must die

FWIW, I’ve decided I’m going to do my best to stop referring to “Web 2.0″ while talking to colleagues and contacts and openly object to any references to “Web 3.0″.

It’s just “the web” – if we stick with the “Web x.0″ naming convention, are we going to eventually see “Web 9.0″? Or even “Web 9.2.4″?

Or will we switch to “Web Vista”? “Web Leopard”? How about “Web Intrepid Ibex“?

The point-oh naming system has emerged because software people need to get a handle on the web.

The rest of us couldn’t give a tuppenny bit, we just want it to work.

Google Apps – their place in our future

While moving house recently – and between ISP – I’ve relied a great deal more than usual on Gmail. It’s a walk in the park to have Gmail access your existing non-Gmail email accounts and even send from those accounts via Gmail.

And this has lead to a lot more use of Google Apps, which I’ve discovered are a joy to use.

Later this month I’ll be switching my mobile from Orange pay-as-you-go to T-Mobile’s Web ‘n’ Walk, and it occurs to me that at that point I’ll be able to use all of Google’s good stuff for about half what I currently pay for plain phone access with Orange.

I just need to settle on the best phone to use the web access – if anyone knows if the Blackberry is the one to go for, or there’s another model I should be going for, do drop me a line.
